A Very Big Christmas Tree

A Very Big Christmas Tree

Back then, we visited many places, so we couldn’t make it back to the church on time to see the clock in action; we’ll save it for another Christmas if we get the chance to return to Strasbourg…

At night, the oversized Christmas tree in Place Kléber, not far from Strasbourg Cathedral, is beyond imagination – full of twinkling lights, spreading throughout the streets leading to the square.

After dark, the best and most beautiful things in Strasbourg come to life—not just the Christmas tree in Place Kléber. Even though it was freezing cold—close to 0 degrees Celsius—we still strolled, immersing ourselves in the enchantment, where the play of light highlighted the ancient houses, the unique heritage of Strasbourg.

People say that Christmas Eve is the main event; not much is said about Christmas Day. Even in the center of Ho Chi Minh City, a shopping mall displaying Christmas symbols can only be fully appreciated at night when the lights are on, attracting young men and women to pose and take photos.

This Christmas season, according to a friend of mine, Mr. Lữ Nhất Phương, “the freezing cold weather at the end of the year, along with the rising number of Covid cases, still cannot stop the steady stream of tourists flocking to Strasbourg, the capital of Christmas.” They come to visit this beautiful city, which is also considered the capital of the European Union (along with Brussels and Luxembourg); to enjoy the cuisine of the Alsace region; to stroll among the wooden stalls in the shimmering light of the Christmas markets and to drink hot wine to keep warm.

Throughout the entire month of the Christmas market (from November 26 to December 26), shop owners always compete with each other, decorating their storefronts and display windows to make them as beautiful as possible.

In Strasbourg, France, during Christmas, you can encounter enchanting medieval streets adorned with twinkling lights, the iconic Christkindelsmärik—the oldest Christmas market in France—festive decorations, the scent of spiced mulled wine, and a magical holiday atmosphere.
